Lesson 34:
Finding and analyzing quotes.
In this lesson, each team selects two poems about their character. They will summarize each poem, and choose a quote that shows how their character is like family to Lonnie.
Persuasive phrases and reporter speech.
Students will view the mini-lesson on persuasive phrases, and work in their teams to prepare their speech for the discussion using the Reporter speech template on workbook pp. 165-166.
This lesson requires live, synchronous group work. You could use a breakout room for each team, meet with each group separately at a different time, or assign students to collaborate with their peers outside of class time. You may wish to assign students to watch the Persuasive phrases mini-lesson video ahead of time, or you could just briefly go over persuasive phrases without viewing the video, since this is review from Unit 1.
